2.  Purpose of the Lab

The primary purpose of the Intelligent Machines Lab is to provide academicians and graduate students working in the fields of robotics, mechatronics and control systems with the infrastructure to perform experiments that support their research and theses as well as build novel machinery. The secondary goal is to become a hub for undergraduate students preferably from all departments in the faculty who want to work on robotics and mechatronics projects, providing them with the technical know-how as well as the equipment required for their projects.  The lab positions itself as an interdisciplinary lab where, people with different backgrounds in engineering can come together and work on novel projects. Another purpose of the lab is to provide experiment setups that could be used for the following classes for a better practical understanding of the coursework:

  • ME100 Introduction to Mechanical Engineering
  • ME252 Dynamics
  • ME314 Mechanisms
  • ME321 System Dynamics and Control
  • ME318 Mechanical Vibrations
  • ME398 Machine Design Project
  • ME411 Experimental Methods in Mechanical Engineering
  • ME418 Introduction to Robotics
  • ME420 Dynamics of Mechanisms and Machines
  • ME422 Control Systems
  • ME497 Engineering Project 1
  • ME 498 Engineering Project 2
  • ME707 Advanced Dynamics
  • ME709 Advanced System Dynamics and Control
  • ME712 Kinematic and Dynamic Analysis of Mechanisms
  • ME720 Principles of Robotics
  • ME751 Special Topics in Mechanics and Control
  • ME756 Special Topics in Mechanics and Control
  • ME728 Optimal Control Systems
  • ME822 Advanced Control System Design

There are currently no plans for the lab to be used in analyses and tests for certification purposes.
